Villa del Palmar Loreto: 5 Fantastic Adventures

La vida es una buena aventura = Life is a good adventure.

Let me tell you about one of Mexico’s best kept secrets. A small but super charming fishing village on the edge of the Sea of Cortez called Loreto. Picture me totally whispering that cause I am. I honestly don’t want anyone to know. Mil gracias goes to Villa del Palmar Loreto for inviting me on this life changing (life saving) trip. I’ve decided that keeping everything you love secret is exactly the reason why I let months pass by without a peep about my trip to Villa del Palmar Loreto. That wasn’t my intention, it just happened. Everything about the trip was perfect… except me. I lacked the words. I just didn’t know how to put love in words.

The flight is only two hours from Los Angeles. I was excited the whole time so I just stared out of the window on the plane awaiting my big adventure. Sitting next to me happened to be 2012 & 2013 Baja 1000 Champ BJ Baldwin’s co-driver Johnny Nelson. He gave me a pep talk on our descent down. Something about life being a good adventure. More on that later.

The airport is new and small, about 40 minutes from the resort. We were out of customs and security in about 15 minutes, got on a shuttle and was on our way. Villa del Palmar Loreto is on gated private property and when we arrived, were greeted by the hotel staff with drinks and treated to a refreshing hand washing. The staff never felt like staff, they were familia. Get this, your room key is on a wristband. No more looking in the bottom of your bag for your room key, you just wave your wrist up to your door and it unlocks. It is genius. My room was nothing short of amazing. It had a kitchen, living room, jacuzzi tub, washer and dryer but what made it was my huge balcony overlooking the gorgeous property. Pools and the Islands of Loreto just right outside my window. I found myself sitting on that balcony every night the sun went down and for hours after.

I woke up every morning thanking the Universe for my life, the natural beauty + serenity of Loreto. That peace did wonders for my soul. I didn’t complain once on the trip. My mind was clear.

About my five adventures. Now these adventures might be small for some but for someone like me who grew up in the hood and never thought much about what I could see out of a 10 mile radius… it is huge. I read it on my itinerary but actually doing it vs. seeing it on paper… huge.

Sky Lantern Release – The beauty of this is you write your wish on a lantern and send it in the night sky. I promise you that it is the most magical thing you can do as an adult. I wished for what I always wish for…

Sea of Cortez Boat Tour – There are five islands of Loreto: Coronado, Danzante, Del Carmen, Montserrat and Santa Catalina. There is no shortage of things you can do on the islands (hiking, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, taking in the scenic views, observing dolphins or sea lions…) or you don’t have to do anything but lay there and soak in the sun. The waves were a little brutal that day but I sucked it up and I conquered many small fears. (Fears you don’t even know you have until that defining moment)

Ceviche Lunch at Honeymoon Beach – After jumping in perfect, warm turquoise water, we were treated to a picnic right on the beach. It could not have been more perfect.

Morning Hike – As someone who is considered plus size, I always prove everyone wrong about health and wellness. I did the hike and it was worth the views!

Eucalyptus Bath – After your morning hike and breakfast, you have to head up to Sabila Spa. Get a massage and treat yourself to the wet areas. My absolute favorite is the eucalyptus bath, it was so rejuvenating and refreshing. I never experienced anything so fabulous before.

Sometimes you need to go on a trip to refresh and find yourself. Villa del Palmar Loreto is perfect for that life changing moment. Cross those all off my life list! But I would certainly do it again! I can sit here and write all about my adventures and show you the pictures but really, you need to go.

  1. These pictures are breath taking! I could really use somewhere like this right now, things have been pretty chaotic lately, it would be nice to take a break and relax someplace with views like this, especially the Eucalyptus Bath!
