That’s a 2017 Phantom Black Hyundai Elantra Eco. We had one for a week. Our truck was out of commission and my schedule was packed with local travel on a holiday weekend. We would have to make the trek to San Diego and back twice. Super panicked, I reached out to DriveShop to see if they had anything in the fleet to help us. And this phantom black beauty arrived. I was feeling it. Needed to keep our costs low because we still needed to get our truck fixed and read that this baby would be easy on gas. YASSS!
We surprised the LEGO loving 4 year old with a trip to LEGOLAND! We got invited to see the newest edition to Miniland, One World Trade Center. He was so wild when we pulled up. Peep all that room. Look at it! We packed an extra bag to hang at the waterpark and snacks for on the road.
Legit smiles. I don’t know why taking pictures of them is like pulling teeth but you know what… give them a Master Builder mug full of LEGO and let’s do this!
There it is. The tallest LEGO structure in the world. My sons got to witness the dedication ceremony. One of our personal history books. Bless.

I can appreciate the built-in USB charger in the newer cars. Our truck ain’t spiffy like this. Sitting shotgun, I can do work on the drive home or in traffic.
We averaged 36mpg on Eco mode on both trips to and from San Diego. What is Eco mode? You just hit a button that restricts engine and transmission performance in favor of fuel economy. (I wondered too. I gotchu boo) That’s on the highway and in the streets. So it is safe for me to say that the Hyundai Elantra Eco is easy on the wallet at the gas station. A little spoiled because the a/c was perfect and both kids fell asleep each trip.
I’m not even gonna front, I could throw a bunch of specs up about this car but what it comes down to is… is it safe, how is it on gas and how much does it cost. This car hit high marks on all these concerns of mine. 5 stars on overall NHTSA safety rating. MSRP $20,650.
