Dear Brands, Do This.

#TheNewKia raisedbyculture.com

Now here’s a concept. Invite 50 influencers to your event + tell them you trust them. But don’t stop there. Tell them keep doing what you’re doing + don’t change what you’re doing. Tell them to talk about what’s honest and true to you. Hit them with this line “Don’t ever let anyone dictate your content.” FULL STOP. ALLA THAT.

And then thank them. What it comes down to is trust and chemistry. Kia figured out the formula. Not only with influencers but with everything. Want receipts? Kia took the top spot in the 2016 J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey. The first time in 27 YEARS that a non-premium nameplate gets to floss. ALL THE WAY UP. You got the juice now, Kia.

This is what Kia did right

Be open to change. This is not your traditional ride and drive.

Do the work. Look, don’t just grab the bloggers, photographers, YouTubers with the highest numbers. It don’t work like that. Diversity is key. Have a healthy mix of good ones. It adds to the chemistry.

Themes rock. Everyone wants to be a rock superstar. Even if only for a day or two. This sets the tone and makes live band karaoke not so awkward.

Location is everything. San Diego in summer. Hard Rock Hotel. Gaslamp Quarter. The hospitality suite. We didn’t retreat up to our rooms to do work, we hung out. We closed down that hospitality suite.

Get us excited. Give us things to work with. We like food. Nobu sushi is good. A San Diego centric menu, I like. Full size candy bars in the hospitality suite. KRISPY KREME. YASSSSSSS.

Make work not seem like work. Invite us and that’s it. Don’t attach things like you need a draft of the blog post with a minimum of five social media shares. Nah homie. Trust that we know how to do our job.

Accessible staff. If I’m being honest, the Kia team is cool AF. They could be bloggers too.

Be a brand we want to work with. Do I see myself in a Kia? ALL THE WAY YES cause safety, quality, price, technology, innovation. I’m the type to accept invites based on my feelings about a brand. I don’t say yes to say yes. The brand consistently says hey here are our cars, check it out. That is trust. Kia is one of my favorite brands to work with. Kia gets it.
