When my homies want to get together, two things are mandatory. Margaritas + Mexican food. Don’t even bring up nada else. I love me a mango margarita + good conversation. They just go together. We’ve been known to gather up for girls night out or late night dinner after a long day at a conference. It is always a good time. I was invited to check out the newly renovated Acapulco Restaurant y Cantina in Downey and it was nothing like I expected, it was better. If this is the future of all Real Mex Restaurants, I’m absolutely here for it. The dramatic new look gives me feel good vibes, like I’m kicking back at a beach resort in Mexico.
These are all my pictures, I keep it real like that. That natural light was coming in and everything was on point. Acapulco in Downey is that spot.
Acapulco Sunset – frozen blend, Cuervo Silver, mango, lime juice, chile-salted rim, tamarind candy straw. My kinda drink. You might know this as a mangonada but with tequila!
Poke Tacos – chipotle flour shells, ahi poke, wasabi-guacamole. This is fancy. I tip my hat to Acapulco for tapping into poke!
Ceviche Rojo – mahi mahi, shrimp, guacamole, pineapple, mango relish. This is my SH**! The flavors in this ceviche had me thinking about it for weeks. Super light with fresh flavors. Match made in test kitchen heaven.
Chef Enrique is wonderful. Bless!
Seafood Pozole – spiced broth, mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, mahi mahi, cabbage, radishes. I love me some soup. I think we forget that good soup is composed of layers and the way this soup is set up, every spoonful is different and good.
You know what… elotes are good on it’s own and have always been but adding bacon takes it to a whole ‘nother level. Acapulco did that.
Moonlight Melt – Cazadores Blanco, blue cotton candy, orange juice, poured tableside. Tableside isn’t only for guacamole. There is something fun about having your drinks poured at your table. It adds on to the fun.
Fruta Bionica – vanilla ice cream, pumpkin seeds, almonds, peanuts, sesame seeds, mangos, bananas, apples, blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, creamy roasted walnut and strawberry sauce. This is another dish where each spoonful was a delicious but different bite. The apples, ice cream and nuts were something I’ve never had and I really liked it. Sidenote: I usually do not have dairy when I go out to eat but how can one say no to this beauty?
