Your New At Knott’s Summer Checklist

#NewAtKnotts #KnottsIronReef raisedbyculture.comDrums please! Summer, summer, summertime! Summer officially starts at California’s best theme park – Knott’s Berry Farm on June 13! Summer means freedom. Free to sleep in, sleep late, finally no homework (cause homework for them is homework for you) and do whatever you want for at least two months. Oh to be a kid again! We usually do a big family trip each summer but this year we’re staying close to home. Methinks we’ll be just fine with our season passes to the farm and Soak City!

  • First things first, you have to save Knott’s from the Kraken Queen! Voyage to the Iron Reef is the park’s newest ride. Wait, is it a ride or is it a game? The hybrid 4D interactive game ride is nothing short of spectacular. Beat your kids score, make them cry.
  • Cool down in the Charles M. Schulz Theatre with Snoopy’s new ice show, Blockbuster Beagle! The ice shows are my absolute favorite attraction at Knott’s cause air conditioning and seats. Just kidding.
  • In the day, make your way to the Calico Square Stage for Vertical Impact. The high energy show is set to today’s most popular songs combining trampoline stunts, bmx bikes, skaters, dancers and aerialists. At night, it switches up to Vertical Impact, Geared Up! The stunts are electrified and taking it to the next level. DJ Nytemadness will be on the ones and twos keeping the party going! Every show ends with an informal meet and greet so get your selfie sticks ready!
  • Big Band Swingin’ Sundays, Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies, Ghost Town Miners Bluegrass, Big Fat Steve Band, Salsa Dancing and Charlie Brown’s Happy Campers will keep the Farm buzzing with fun this summer. Pick up a schedule when you get in the park to see what’s going on.
  • The streetmosphere of Ghost Town is alive with new residents Clem Culpepper, Ma & Pa Shine, Nathan Quickly and these other townsfolk! Come back and tell me which one is your favorite. I’m gonna stalk Ma & Pa Shine and get them to tell me all about the moonshine biz.
  • I dare you to find the Catawampus. I never knew he existed until this year. I’ve been going to the park since I was a tween. I always learn something new with each visit!

Omar is Three

I never imagined life with four kids. I thought two would be it. It is so apparent in their age range. The oldest Tyler is 18 and graduates next month, Damien just celebrated his 16th birthday yesterday, Duke is 9 and Omar is three. I wish I was young enough to pop out one more baby. Life is crazy like that. I am without question their devoted and doting mama. I give them space to be independent but just enough to step in if I have to. I pick and choose fights (but I’m far from a sucker) cause above anything, their happiness is my happiness. You know what happiness is to a toddler? Pretend City. A little town of fun things to do! My favorite: The no cellphone policy. Their favorite: Everything. Seriously. We had to carry Omar out crying. But he slept on the way home so it was all good. We were at Pretend City Children’s Museum for a good 4 hours and still had things to do. We’ll definitely be back.

Bath Time Fun #johnsonspartners

Today we’re using JOHNSON’S® Baby products as part of a #johnsonspartners sponsored post for Socialstars.

I am currently in the greatest adventure of my life. The feat of raising four boys from 2-17 years old. My oldest will be 18 next month, graduating high school in June and starting college in the fall. I can hardly believe it myself. The 15 year old, a gamer with my sense of humor, excellent taste in music and full of the cutest awkward charisma, the almost 9 year old is a mirror image of him. There are days when I feel I didn’t get to enjoy my bigs like I should have. That guilt triggered me making a promise to myself (when I got laid off last year) to savor even the simplest moments with my children. My baby who is the prince of the family is hardly a baby. He knows what he wants and he lives life grand. I love that he came last because he would be an only child. Seriously.

Holiday Traditions Remixed

#LBCMoreMerry raisedbyculture.comDisclosure: This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Sears and Latina Bloggers Connect. All thoughts are my own.

There were only two times a year you got presents in my family, on your birthday and Christmas. And Christmas was a big deal, the essence of it all was a celebration of our family. I didn’t realize it at the time but my family worked so hard to make it special for all of us. There was no shortage of Christmas trees, presents, food and love. Nights filled with novenas, being shuttled from house to house before and after midnight Mass to open gifts and stuff our happy faces with good food. Then Mass again on Christmas Day, more presents and more food…  those holiday traditions defined me. We ended up moving 6000 miles away, my family of over 100 deep became 4 and soon after, 5 with the addition of my little sister. My parents struggled financially and with culture shock in the beginning. No more novenas, no more midnight Mass, no homecooked food at my Nana’s. It was just us and it was just as special but in a different way.

Cooking with Vons Holiday Essentials

Vons Holiday Essentials

Vons Holiday Essentials raisedbyculture.comThank you Safeway/Vons for sponsoring our Thanksgiving feast!

My husband Chris is serious about turkey. We only buy Butterball and we only buy it from Vons. Every year like clockwork, the ad comes in the mail and our beloved Butterball is on sale. Yay! Some years it is spend $25 and get a 10-16 lb. turkey for $10, this year it was something like spend $25 and the turkey is .87 a pound. Which totally works out for us because we spend over $25 in holiday essentials. Our menu for the past few years is simple, I make mashed potatoes with gravy, jalapeno cornbread dressing, King’s Hawaiian Rolls, vegetables, turkey and pumpkin pie.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Time Capsule

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #OwnTheGalaxy #CollectiveBias

Throwback Thursday.
Flashback Friday.
I know one thing is for sure in 2014 – everyone loves reminiscing about the good times. I was blown away by the 70s-80s music on Guardians of the Galaxy. It is a true flashback fest to the classics. The soundtrack worked in glorious harmony with the cast and script. I think music is an important and mostly overlooked detail in movies. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is just that, AWESOME. Inspired by the movie and soundtrack, I had to create a time capsule about Peter Quill / Star-Lord. A box of his earthly things to stay connected to Earth and his family for my own earthlings.
