When my homies want to get together, two things are mandatory. Margaritas + Mexican food. Don’t even bring up nada else. I love me a mango margarita + good conversation. They just go together. We’ve been known to gather up for girls night out or late night dinner after a long day at a conference. It is always a good time. I was invited to check out the newly renovated Acapulco Restaurant y Cantina in Downey and it was nothing like I expected, it was better. If this is the future of all Real Mex Restaurants, I’m absolutely here for it. The dramatic new look gives me feel good vibes, like I’m kicking back at a beach resort in Mexico.
These are all my pictures, I keep it real like that. That natural light was coming in and everything was on point. Acapulco in Downey is that spot.
Tacos on tacos on tacos. $40 is a steal when it comes to having all-you-can-eat access to 100 of the best tacos from the top taco vendors in one place. A true taco throw-down where the only loser is the capacity of your stomach. This is Tacolandia.
- Tip 1: Do your research, and come prepared for Tacolandia. Check L.A. Weekly’s site for the final vendor announcement and strategize.
- Tip 2: Train for this, and come hungry.
- Tip 3: Wear stretchy pants or an A-line dress.
- Tip 4: Get there early.
- Tip 5: Bring a tray. Seriously.
Disclosure: I was invited to check out #GhostTown75 – All thoughts are my own.
Flashbacks on flashbacks. I wrote a piece last year for the Knott’s Berry Blog about Ghost Town Characters and I was pretty obsessed with Ghost Town then but now for the 75th Anniversary, Knott’s outdoes itself. Ghost Town Alive! is truly incredible. I’ve never experienced anything like this. For the first time ever, you can step inside + explore the Sheriff’s Office, Barbershop and Goldie’s Place. I’m ready to move in actually.
On point with the details. When I tell you it is about the little things… Get yourself a Calico Gazette. The best free souvenir you can find. Frameable even.
That’s a 2017 Phantom Black Hyundai Elantra Eco. We had one for a week. Our truck was out of commission and my schedule was packed with local travel on a holiday weekend. We would have to make the trek to San Diego and back twice. Super panicked, I reached out to DriveShop to see if they had anything in the fleet to help us. And this phantom black beauty arrived. I was feeling it. Needed to keep our costs low because we still needed to get our truck fixed and read that this baby would be easy on gas. YASSS!
We surprised the LEGO loving 4 year old with a trip to LEGOLAND! We got invited to see the newest edition to Miniland, One World Trade Center. He was so wild when we pulled up. Peep all that room. Look at it! We packed an extra bag to hang at the waterpark and snacks for on the road.
I stay inside with the kids when DriveShop drops off cars for us to check out. Chris handles all that. He gets the keys, paperwork and sometimes goes for a test drive around the block to feel it out. We requested a van for when my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and niece were here in June to celebrate my husband’s birthday. When I tell you this man nicknamed his new “man van”, a snow white pearl 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L, the Storm Trooper… and promptly snapchatted it + happily cruised around in the first ten minutes it was in his possession… it was love at first sight. And I felt the same way. He is so picky with shoes, that I was lowkey worried a van wouldn’t cut it on his cool meter. But all was good and he was down for some California cruising.
On the agenda, our must-see California:

I work entirely too hard to slave over a hot stove in this heat. I’m about that working smarter not harder life. This is why we’re eating out this summer. Look I’m not trying to spend $6 for a kids meal. Ever.

I live for epic Sundays. Sundays are my thing. So when Fruity Pebbles was like… come down to San Diego County Fair, we’re bringing the Flintmobile on Fourth of July weekend. I was like YASSS Sunday Funday in effect! We love San Diego but we had never been to the fair, it was going to be a Sunday Funday of firsts for me and the fam. Check out my post announcing the #PebblesPlay Tour.
My boys pullin’ up like this is the one and only Flintmobile!

I cry at how expensive living in California is. It’s rough out here for a freelancer. With kids. I can’t say that I’m totally committed to eating better and feeding the family healthy. I want to but reasons. The good food is pricey and the only way we were doing it was shopping 4-6 different stores a week. That got tiring and ridiculous. I couldn’t squeeze in trips to local farmers markets like I’d like and forget finding all the things you want in one store. Grocery shopping was my mission impossible. Until ALDI. I saw the coming soon banners go up in my city and kept tabs on the local newspaper for any info on the grand opening. A homegirl emailed me a list of her favorite ALDI products and I read blogs but nothing prepared me for shopping there. There is nothing like it.
Bring a quarter + reusable shopping bags. You’ll get your quarter back and you’ll finally use all those shopping bags you have laying around. You put the quarter in the slot and it pushes the back lock out. When you return the cart, you put the back lock back in and your quarter pops out. You smart, ALDI. Major key.
When you wanna go on a staycation but ain’t got no free time. But you know what… I made time for San Diego. 24 hours to be exact. Figured we’d get our grub on, take in some art and chillax.

♫ Cause it’s Sunday last day for a fun day
Back to business as usual come Monday ♫
By the power of the internet, let’s flashback to March. My work with We All Grow Summit wrapped up and I planned on taking a month off. I lowkey laid on the couch for a week. But that’s not really how this life goes. You have to be ready for anything. My homies at DriveShop happened to reach out to me during my break and was like do you want to roll in a 2016 Mazda3 s GT for a week? OH YES. It was time to get out and do thangs. I wanted in on a good ol’ LA Sunday Funday for sure. We did want to see what the Shake Shack hype was all about. And maybe some shopping and art gawking.
These three. Lovers of shiny cars, smooth rides + a bumpin’ system. Me = lover of safety. Happy to be in a car that isn’t ours? ALL THE WAY YES. Happy to be cruising in a 2016 Mazda3 s GT to LA? YESSIR. Buckle up fellas + let’s ride!
When I get invited to an event, I ask myself two questions 1) is this a brand I support or can see myself supporting? 2) will this help my friends, family or readers in some way? I couldn’t reply YES fast enough to the invite to the grand opening of the newly remodeled and rebranded CVS pharmacy y más store in Bell. See, I’m totally down with #CVSymas and I put my word on it. You have to admire a company that removes tobacco out of all their stores and truly cares about the communities they are in.
CVS pharmacy y más is a unique shopping destination offering Hispanic customers the convenience of a one-stop shop, where they can receive CVS Pharmacy’s best-in-class pharmacy services as well as personalized products and services that better meet their diverse needs, in an environment that feels like home.
